           PART I :Animal idioms

For each idiom find the correct meaning

1. The cat is out of the bag.
2. Mr Smith is no spring chicken.
3. Let sleeping dogs lie.

5. He thinks all his geese are swans.

          PART II : How much do you know about idioms?

For each statement choose R or W

1.All proverbs are idioms.
2.Idioms are fixed expressions that cannot be changed.
3.All idioms, by definition, are clichés.
4. Words with grammatical features can be used idiomatically.
5. An idiom is a phrase which has a different meaning from the meaning of its components
6. One of the problems for language learners is that idioms are culturally bound.
           PART III : Incomplete idioms

For each sentence, read the explanation and choose the one word or phrase that best completes the idiom.

5.I've told you till you're in the face. EXPLANATION : I've told you endlessly.
6. He can hear the  growing. EXPLANATION : Nothing escapes his attention.

8.He's always got something up his EXPLANATION : always something (idea, plan, information) ready to serve.
9. The shoe's on the other EXPLANATION : Roles have been inverted.
