HOW
TO WRITE
HAIKU

a) no rhyme and no
metaphor
c) 3 short lines
Hawk preens
its feathers (5 syllables)
First winter rain pours down the earth (7 syllables)
Wetty leaves calm down
(5 syllables)
d) 17

1. Think of as many season words as you can for
winter, spring , summer or fall.
2. Now write three lines. You must keep them short. Use just a few nouns and
verbs. You don't need to use adjectives. Line one and two should be different
images. Use line 3 to bring them together, and
give your readers a strong image.
